A Letter to My Sons

Dear Calahan & Crewe,

Tomorrow I leave for Washington, D.C., the capital city of the great country we are blessed to be citizens of. On Saturday I will join Grammy, Aunt Anner, the Holmes' girls and thousands of other patriots in celebrating America at the Lincoln Memorial by honoring our heroes, heritage and future.

Even though you are very young, you probably sense the great love that I have for our country. You see the American flags proudly displayed in our home. You hear me talk about some of my American heroes. You see me get teary when I hear the Star Spangled Banner.

This country that I love so dearly is in trouble. We are on the verge of losing our republic and way of life. Many have forgotten the hand of God in our affairs; many have disregarded the core principles that our republic was built up on; many have become so comfortable in their situations that they don't take the time to be informed and exercise their right to vote.

Boys, I'm going to Washington for you. I'm going to add my voice to thousands of others in calling for a return to honor -- a return to the values and principles that our country was founded on -- so that you can enjoy the same freedoms and liberties that our constitution speaks of. If we do not correct our course soon, the America you will come to know will be vastly different than the America that so many inspired men and women gave their lives, fortunes and sacred honor to establish.

When you are little older, Dad and I will take you to the Lincoln Memorial and show you where I represented our family and took a stand, calling for a return to honor, a return to faith, hope and charity.

You two are among America's future. And when I look into your eyes, I know that future is bright. May you always recognize the hand of God in your lives and treasure the gift it is to live in this remarkable country.

Be good for Dad while I'm gone and remember that I love you always.

Love,
Mom
